Contextual History: The year after these $10 dollar notes were printed Zimbabwe found itself grappling with the worst hyperinflation in recorded history, one which produced denominations as high as $100 trillion dollars, leading Zimbabwe to demonetize the currency in 2009. This following a 16 month period that saw denominations of banknotes printed starting as low as one cent and rising as high as 100 trillion (with a “t”) by late 2008 / early 2009. And during that short window of time, Zimbabwe burned through dozens upon dozens of denominations, and new additions were obsolete within days or weeks of being circulated.
