It would go on to have a profound influence on the Romantic movement in England.This is the first translation from Fred. Gotzberg, who was assisted by an unnamed 'English Literary Gentleman'. In the preface, this gentleman described Gotzberg as 'a native of Germany' with 'some knowledge of Werter's family'.Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece and six further plates, from Hopwood. Collated, complete.With six pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. CONDITION In the original paper covered boards. Contemporary owner's inscription to front board, and further marks to boards. Back strip absent. Rear board held by one cord only. Front joint starting, with board holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. A small amount of worming to gutter of each leaf, most prominent to title page. Spotting throughout.
