Description: A charming litho tin mechanical registering bank. The bank dates circa 1930's or so. This bank was made in Germany & was intended for the French market. The bank has a stamped marking underneath with the wording: "Pour pieces de Fra 5- Souvre automatiquement quand il y a Frs 180 -- dans la tirelire" & "Made in Germany". Also, under the back window, which is intended to register the amounts deposited, there is a stamped marking: "5 Francs". So, this 5 Francs marking in combo with the marking under the bank makes it obvious that this bank was intended either for use in France or in some other French speaking country. The litho is in bright condition with absolutely no fading. There are some tiny age lines to the surface of the litho here & there & there is slight wear to the bank. The bank measures 5 3/16 inches tall by 3 7/8 inches wide by 2 1/16 inches deep. The front of the bank has a large area smoothly bent in. The top of the bank has a small inked name, probably of the original owner. We have tested the mechanism with a couple of U.S. coins. We had success in getting the indicating wheel to rotate slightly. But, we do not feel that we have gotten the indicator wheel to rotate sufficiently to say that the bank is fully working. So, because of this & as we do not have a 5 Franc coin to fully/properly test the bank, we are offering the bank as NOT working. We have been interested in tin mechanical & registering banks for over 55 years. In all that time we have never seen another example of this specific design of tin registering bank.
