1960s Belted Kingfisher Card General Mills Cereal Canadian Birds Card Wheaties

Description: This card is one in a series of 50 cards issued in Canada by the GENERAL MILLS COMPANY of Canada. One was inserted into each package of their BIG G CEREAL. The series is entitles “Canadian Birdlife Series” Although no guide that I am aware of gives a definite date of issue for this series it is generally assumed to have been in the 1960’s era I know that the General Mills Wheaties Great Moments In Canadian Sports Series of cards was issued in 1962 (I have seen an ad in a newspaper from that year for the cards) and the design of that series and this series are very similar, so I imagine they were issued within a few years of each other. The front of each card features a colorful image of the featured species as well as it’s Egg. The back of the card features a brief description of the bird in both the French and English Language. The Card measures 3 1/2 inches by 2 1/4 inches approximately. This is number 32 in the series and features an BELTED KINGFISHER. The card is free from creases, with relatively sharp corners. I have scanned the front and back of the card fairly large so you can determine the condition for yourself. THESE CARDS WERE NEVER ISSUED IN THE U.S. and are extremely rare. Due to the lower population in Canada than in the US, print runs in Canada were much smaller compared with American Cards. (Because of this the majority of all Canadian non sports cards are far scarcer than card issued in the USA.
