Description: Antique Eugene Clauss Old Paris Hand Painted Figurine c. Mid 19th Century. This lovely, Old Paris, hand painted figurine was created and hand painted by the master of porcelain in the mid to late 1800s, Eugene Marx Clauss. The celebrated, accomplished and very talented artist was responsible for some of the most beautiful decorative pieces of his time that are prized and highly sought after even today. Unfortunately, due to the very delicate composition, the majority of these collectibles have sustained (expected) damage. This figurine has some damage. However, restoration is an option should one choose to repair and restore the piece. This piece depicts a happy couple, dressed in period Victorian clothing, who appear to be courting, perhaps getting ready to dance. Both the lady and her suitor are wearing pastel colored clothing atop the base of the fancy gilt base. The lady is missing her left forearm and the gentleman has two chipped digits on his right hand. Despite the damage, this remains a delightful treasure as do the majority of these fragile, delicate pieces. Still, even damaged pieces created by Clauss and other old masters command thousands at auctions. On the bottom of the base this pieces is signed by Eugene Clauss with crossed swords (often mistaken for Meissen marks), with the initials, ‘E’ & ‘C’ for Eugene Clauss. This piece measures approximately 7”H x 5.5”W. The photos are part of, and provide the best description. Reasonable offers will be considered, a fair compromise will be made.
