He served in the United States Navy for 21 years. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 where he bravely fought and served aboard the USS Missouri during WWII. He witnessed Japan’s formal instrument of surrender ending WWII on September 2, 1945, while aboard the USS Missouri. He was injured on board the ship when a kamikaze struck it, but he never reported the injury.
