Description: Clement Rohr's Harness Shop Atchison, Kansas This antique photo shows Clement (Clem) Rohr's harness shop in Atchison, Kansas. It's identified by writing on the back. I believe it dates to the 1890s, if not the 1880s. Clem's page at findagrave contains a small biography that's well worth a read. When you're at findagrave, search for Clement Rohr buried in Atchison, Kansas (1835-1910). Rohr settled in Atchison before Kansas became a state. He served two terms as Mayor, and was a beloved resident who gave selflessly to develop and improve the community. His shop was a gathering place where townsmen hashed out problems. The shop's second floor was also his family's home for some time. Rohr sold his harness shop in 1905 when he was 70 years old. He died in 1910 at the age of 74. According to the 1878 Atchison directory, Rohr's business and residence were at 410 Commercial. In 1885, his business was on Commercial and his residence was listed as 405 Division (corner of 4th). Next door to the harness shop, on the right, you'll see a sign that reads, BANK. I believe this was the German American Savings. The 1885 Atchison directory lists this at 408 Commercial which would have been next door to 410. This item measures 6 1/2" x 4 1/4". It's in very nice condition with a little wear to the corners and edges. No creases. Some discoloration from age. Please see the images provided, as they're part of the description.
