The postcard is from his time in France during WW1 and depicts civilians and soldiers in the city of Metz, France after the French Army had marched in. A handwritten note on the back reads, "The civil population of Metz were glad to see the French Army come marching in. Our Aviators refrained from bombing the city during the war.
