Description: Sculpture of Indian chief in headdress with carved artist’s name D. Hyde with insignia. This piece dates from early in his career when he’d go out looking for stones to carve and create from them the figure the stone’s shape itself suggested. A very rare early piece from Doug Hyde. The stone is a softer one and perhaps limestone; the complex coloration and aggregation makes for endlessly joyful viewing. The piece fits satisfyingly in one’s hand.
