Description: Please take the time to read through my entire item description and view all the photographs. I consistently prepare accurate and detailed descriptions and provide clear close up photographs and video when appropriate for all my listings. The aforementioned notwithstanding, note the photos are still the biggest and most important part of this or any description. As the old saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words". If you would like additional photos or have specific questions just message me and I will respond ASAP. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE For your consideration is this NOSTALGIC genuine vintage 1960’s PROJECTED SOUND DRIVE-IN MOVIE THEATER WINDOW SPEAKER. The speaker appears to have all its internal parts intact but I have not removed the back of the box to confirm. I original purchased a few of these vintage drive-in window speakers and used them as static display pieces alongside my vintage automobiles. Since I sold my old cars, I no longer have a need for this window speaker. The speaker box housing is made out of cast aluminum and weighs approximately 2.0 pound, 7.0 ounces (2.61lbs) by itself. The speaker box housing itself measures approximately 7.75” tall, 4.75" wide and 3.0" deep. With the hang-arm, on the back of the speaker box, the unit is approximately 5.25" deep as measured from front to back. Refer to description photos #18, #19, #20, #21, #22 and #23 to confirm the weight and size dimensions and for more details about what I have described. As can be seen in the description photos, the speaker was manufactured by “PROJECTED SOUND” in “PLAINFIELD, IND.” for “CINECOM THEATRES”. This information is cast in the aluminum and stamped on the top front side of the speaker. Refer to description photos #2, #16 and #17 for more details about what I have described. A brief history of the drive-in theater where this speaker came from is provided below for your further review and consideration. The Fort Wayne Drive-In opened in 1940 as a single screen theater with a 712 car capacity. The original operators were Brailey-Browning, Inc. and United Film Booking Service. The theater was later operated by Alliance Theatres before ultimately being acquired by “Cinecom Theatres”. Despite its honest age, years of use, and exposure to the outside weather over the decades, as can be confirmed in the description photos, the aluminum surface on the window speaker is remarkably in very good condition with only minor surface scratches and scuffs from actual use. The aluminum surface on the box is free of any damage, cracks and/or repairs. The surface is smooth and shows no signs of corrosion. The speaker wire was cut straight and is approximately 3.25” in length. The speaker retains its original volume knob that functions (turns freely) as designed. Refer to description photos #1, #2, #3, #6 and #13 for more details. The two original screws used to hold the two halves of the speaker box together are present as clearly depicted in description photos #10 and #11. Please refer to all the description photos to confirm the overall condition of the window speaker and for more details about what I have described. Note; the bottom screw (seen in photo #11) appears to have a different screw head type (looks like a type of hybrid of a Phillips/Regular head). This screw may require a specialty screwdriver or adaptation to remove it. For this reason alone, I did not feel comfortable attempting to open the box to photograph the internal parts. As a matter of full disclosure, there is an approximate 5/16” diameter hole that is drilled through the top of the speaker arm. This hole was present when I acquired the speaker and I have absolutely no idea if it is original to the piece and/or its intended purpose. Nevertheless its presence never detracted from the speaker’s nostalgic appearance or charm. Refer to description photos #5, #12, #14 and #15 detailing the noted hole. Overall, this vintage drive-in movie theater window speaker remains in the same condition I acquired it in over 40 years ago. The speaker is a great nostalgic piece from a bygone era in time that can be used as display piece and/or restored for use as it was originally designed. Please look at the photos closely as they accurately depict the vintage drive-in window speaker I describe and show exactly what you will receive if you purchase this piece. If you have any questions or concerns about the speaker please email me and I will respond ASAP.
