Guaranteed to be as described and satisfaction guaranteed, this is a very nice and fully serviced Hamilton size 10 pocket watch caliber 917 (17 jewel) or caliber 921 (21 Jewel) (your choice) movement made c. 1936-1954 with a brand new custom Flieger style dial and hands which has been cased in a brand new new custom fit 42mm brushed stainless steel wrist watch case with sapphire crystals both front and back, two bands (one black and one brown) all in a nice wooden presentation case with laser cut foam padding. Men made the switch from pocket watches to wrist watches after the first World War because they found it to be problematic to be fumbling around in their pockets to check the time with gloves on, in a trench, and taking fire. The Second World War saw the invention of the Flieger watch for pilots. Again pocket watch movements were used to make large watches to be worn on the wrist as a backup to the airplane cockpit clock. The specifications for a Fieger watch were: Large 55mm case, large onion shaped crown to able to be wound with gloves on, no name or distracting writing on the dial, 12:00 indicator to be a triangle with 2 dots, radium illuminated dial for reading at night, hacking movement, regulated and tested to be chronometer accurate, must have a Breguet balance spring, and extra long riveted straps capable of being worn over the jacket. This is my modernized homage to the Flieger watch, using a vintage quality American made movement and tweaking the specs to be practical today. Turning the watch over an extra large observation window has been cut into the case back to observe the fine vintage movement. This watch is BEAUTIFUL. This watch will come with our sales receipt and our Certificate of Authenticity (COA). My opinion is that the perfect size for a modern mens watch is 42mm, so that is the size of this case. To fill the case I have used vintage USA made Hamilton 917 and 921 pocket watch movements pulled from scrapped pocket watches. The size of the Hamilton cal 917 and 921 is perfect for this case. They fill the case with no movement ring needed, allowing for a full sized observation window in the case back. The winding crown is an onion style crown proportional to the size of the case to maintain the Fleiger motif. The dial was made specifically to fit this caliber movement with factory installed dial feet in the proper locations. The dial was custom printed with the seconds chapter at 9:00 to accommodate the pocket watch seconds hand location (since the movement is installed 90 degrees out of rotation from where it would be in an open faced pocket watch). The dial and hands are modern non-radioactive C1 luminescent paint. The 12:00 marker is a triangle with two dots, no distracting markings and no name on the dial. The movement has been fully serviced, refurbished. and regulated for best timekeeping possible. The standard length genuine leather strap is riveted and has an oversized buckle to finish off the Flieger homage. The result is a 42mm in diameter (excluding the winding crown), 52mm tall (from lug tip) and 11.3mm thick watch which I think is perfectly sized, and the perfect blend of vintage and modern to be a lifetime watch that is unique and makes a statement. It is big enough to be masculine, but small enough not to make you look like a kid wearing dad's watch. To build these beautiful watches I customize a brand new 316L stainless steel watch case to fit the pocket watch movement. I install a sapphire crystal in the case. I cut the full movement sized observation window in the case back and install a sapphire crystal there also. I source a vintage Hamilton cal 917 seventeen jewel movement or a cal 921 twenty one jewel movement (your choice) from the heyday of American watchmaking that has never been the victim of a less than qualified watchmaker and disassemble it completely. I only use movements from watches that have had their cases scrapped for their precious metals, I do not cannibalize complete watches for their movements. I also cherry pick from many movements, only using movements that are in excellent condition to begin with. Any worn parts are replaced, all steel components are hand polished, jewel settings are polished, and the screws and the regulator are polished. It is cleaned and reassembled with modern synthetic oils and a new modern white alloy mainspring leaving the movement probably working better than when new. I custom ordered these dials with C1 Super Lume paint which glows brighter and longer than the typical luminous paint used on homage Fliegers. Each watch is pressure tested to 5 ATM (50 meters) and run for three days in all positions before shipping. The result is a literal piece of history that is beautiful and functional for a fraction of the price of the watches that the modern fine watch brands are selling for thousands of dollars. The pictures have been taken from every angle and represent the watch well, in fact they are 3x magnified, the dial, hands, case, crystals, and band are all brand new and the movement is fully serviced. Any imperfections you see in the shine are just reflections the camera caught. All movements are thoroughly serviced. Shown here on a 6.75 inch wrist. This watch comes with two bands and a presentation box. The bands are brown and black and are brand new 22mm quality genuine leather riveted straps with an over sized milled buckles and quick change bars (band can be changed with no tools and in under a minute).
