Description: Outstanding 1941 watercolor illustration of Paris (appears to be Place de la Concorde) by well-known illustrator and muralist Jean Pages (1903-1975). Pages studied architecture in Paris and painting and illustration with Raoul Dufy. He produced his first illustration in 1925 for a Conde Nast publication in France and soon thereafter became a prolific advertising illustrator for a number of French companies. In the late 1920s he became a full-time illustrator for Conde Nast, creating a number of illustrations and cover art for Vogue Magazine in New York and Paris. Following World War II, Pages began creating murals for prominent New York restaurants and buildings, most notably for the famed restaurant La Caravelle in New York, Le Mistral, the Plaza Hotel, the Meridien in Paris, and the Campari factory in Paris. Pages also created murals for "Le Poulailler," a Manhattan restaurant opened in 1967 by the owners of the legendary "La Caravelle." This watercolor is signed and dated lower right, measures 14.5" x 22.25" (sight size) and is in good condition with perhaps minor toning of the paper. Framed and matted as shown.
