Katuk aka Sweet Leaf Bush (Sauropus androgynus) is a staple vegetable in Borneo where it grows as an understory tree in the lowland rainforests.Katuk will grow in shade or full sun, but it will not tolerate being dry. Its multiple upright stems can reach 2.5 meters high and bear dark green oval leaves 5–6 cm long.Katuk has a tasty leaf with a pea-like or nutty flavor. The leaves and flowers have a pea like flavor. It produces nutritious high protein leaves, an amazing amount for a vegetable.Enjoy Katuk as an addition to salads, a lawn-side nibble, and cooked in various dishes like you find in thousands of restaurants. It is a good source of vitamin K.
