Description: Lucien Dasselborn (French/Belgian 1873-1962) "Les Clochers (The Steeples)" Vintage Etching on Woven Paper, Limited Edition Number 197 of 200 - Double Matted, Signed and Titled by the Artist in pencil Artist and Print Details: This etching by French/Belgian Artist Lucien Dasselborn is titled “Les Clochers (The Steeples)” and depicts a scene from the Belgian, Flemish town of Bruges. Dasselborne, born in the border town of Louvroil, France on April 13, 1873 and died in the nearby Belgian town of Tournai on January 27, 1962. He began to paint during the First World War, after his law studies. A member of the Salon of French Artists, he had several exhibitions in the region including in 1929 at The Church of La Chapelle d'Alagnon (Auvergne) and Une rue à Tournai (Belgium). One of the coveted Hainaut prizes is awarded by the city of Tournai in his honor. In 1928, Hungarian-born Sidney Zoltan Lucas founded "Camilla Lucas," which encompassed an art publishing house and an art gallery. Zoltan dealt in reproductions of antique, modern and contemporary paintings. He also sold original art including etchings such as this one, lithographs and paintings. Starting in the 1930's and continuing into the 1950's, Sydney Lucas traveled to Europe periodically and contracted with French and Flemish artists such as Lucien Dasselborn to publish their work under the banner of the "Paris Etching Society." Pieces published by Lucas, like this one are marked with a triangle with Lucas' initials inside. This etching is titled and signed by the artist, in pencil. It is numbered 197 of 200. The etching is in excellent condition with no noticeable flaws. The matt is approximately 26 x 30 inches and the image is approximately 20 x 24 inches.
