Showbill signed: "Maurice Evans", 2 pages, 6¼x9 affixed to a 9x12 sheet. Showbill for a performance of Hamlet, at Horace Bushnell Hall, Hartford, Connecticut, February 29, 1940. British stage actor Maurice Evans (1901-1989) made his American debut on Broadway, becoming well known for his interpretations of such classic Shakespearean characters as Romeo, Hamlet, Macbeth and Richard II, among others. Evans, who brought Shakespeare to television, received an Emmy Award in 1960 for Macbeth. Although he made several feature films, including The Story of Gilbert and Sullivan (1953), The War Lord (1965) and Rosemary's Baby (1968) and played Dr. Zaius in two Planet of the Ape films, Evans is perhaps best known for his role as Elizabeth Montgomery's warlock father, Maurice, on Bewitched (1964-1972). He also appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies and guested on several TV series. Heavily toned. Pin holes in bottom right corner and top margin of showbill. Small section lifted from bottom right margin. Small stains on left and top margin. Corners lightly worn. Small tears along top margin of sheet. Ink notes (unknown hand) on top right corner.
