Description: NB-36H Peacemaker Bomber Photograph Nuclear Hydrogen Bomb Test 1952 8X10 Photo Caption: A U.S. Air Force B-36H-1-CF Peacemaker at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida (USA), in the 1950s. This aircraft was used in support of "Operation Ivy" nuclear tests in October-November 1952. It was later re-designated DB-36H to test the GAM-63 Rascal missile. The aircraft was retired to the MASDC on 3 June 1956 and scrapped. Operation Ivy was the eighth series of American nuclear tests, coming after Tumbler-Snapper and before Upshot–Knothole. The two explosions were staged in late 1952 at Enewetak Atoll in the Pacific Proving Ground in the Marshall Islands. The Operation Ivy test series was the first to involve a hydrogen bomb rather than an atomic bomb, further to the order of President Harry S. Truman made on January 31, 1950 that the US should continue research into all forms of nuclear weapons. The bombs were prepared by the US Atomic Energy Commission and Defense Department aboard naval vessels, and were capable of being detonated remotely from the control ship Estes. The B-36 "Peacemaker" is a strategic bomber that was operated by the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1959. The B-36 is the largest mass-produced piston-engine aircraft ever built. It had the longest wingspan of any combat aircraft ever built, at 230 ft. The B-36 was the first bomber capable of delivering any of the nuclear weapons in the U.S. arsenal from an internal bomb bay without aircraft modifications. With a range of 10,000 mi and a maximum payload of 87,200 lb., the B-36 was capable of intercontinental flight without refueling. 8x10 inch Photograph Reproduction SIZE: 8X10 Inch Art PrintPRINTER: Epson industrial printers.PAPER: The matte print paper we use features a beautiful soft white printing surface with outstanding ink holding capabilities.
