Description: >Offered here is an old and original 1935 DETROIT TIGERS vs. NEW YORK YANKEES (Lou Gehrig in line-up!) baseball program!! Please see all six photos, as they are an important part of my description. This vintage baseball program was printed on thicker cardboard stock, and is a multi-foldout. Featured on the program's front cover is Detroit Tigers star Charlie Gehringer. There are pre-printed line-ups for both the Tigers and the New York Yankees. First baseman Lou Gehrig is listed in the Yank's lineup, along with Combs, Rolfe, Chapman, Selkirk, Lazzeri, etc. The Detroit Tigers lineup includes Charles Gehringer, Hank Greenberg along with White, Cochrane, Goslin, Rogel, Fox and Owen. There are a few hard-to-see pencil notations on the Detroit boxscore, but the program was not "scored" by the game attendee. Since the game was played in Detroit, Michigan at Tiger Stadium, there's some classic vintage advertising for the Detroit area. <>History: this 1935 Detroit Tigers team won the American League pennant, ending with a three-game lead on the New York Yankees. Detroit would go on to win the 1935 World Series as well. Earlier in the year (before the baseball season began), the Yanks released Babe Ruth. Ruth was not a big fan of Yankees manager Joe McCarthy. Ruth had asked New York owner Jacob Ruppert if he could manage the team, but Ruppert refused. The team worked out a deal with the Boston Braves, who would join the team serving in many capacities. Thus, the Yankees were "Ruth-less" for the first time since 1919 and home attendance in the Bronx sank to an all-time low. However, Lou Gehrig enjoyed a strong season for the Yanks, as their primary power hitter. <>Condition: this vintage baseball program is in *Fine Shape* overall, and shows only minor age/handling faults exhibiting a well-preserved appearance...especially for approaching ninety years old!
