Description: This is doll is from the first run of the new line of dolls Pleasant Company introduced in the Holiday catalog of 1995. They were called American Girl of Today. There were 20 dolls and they went by their number on the chart. The dolls came with the classic head molds, an asian mold or the Addy head mold. The eyes were blue, grey, green, light brown and dark brown. The straight hair wigs with bangs were the same length and came in black, light brown, dark brown, red and blonde. There were also some dolls with textured hair. This number 12 doll has fair skin, the classic face mold, blonde hair and brown eyes. She has the first neckstamp used in late 1994 and early 1995. It has the circle C set above the P in Pleasant. Her body is plump and has no body tags. Her face is full and the make-up is very nude. Only the 1995/1996 dolls have this light face paint. 1997 dolls got more color. 1998 dolls get slimmer. Her eyebrows are stained arches. She was retired in 2015 when Mattel released the Gwen doll. They looked a lot alike. She is wearing the first outfit these dolls came in, "The Mix and Match" outfit. it has magenta underwear, leggings, and a tee shirt. There is a large crisp white shirt, and a denim reversible vest. The writing Kit came with the dolls for the first few years. This is not a complete set of the books and the template is not included. The shoes are not the ballet flats that the catalog showed. Production problems led to the doll coming in Mary Janes. The accessories are a denim hat, necklace, purse with contents, grin pins, a mini magazine. The doll is wearing the first run of the hat with the sunflower. This is the one photographed in the catalog. This first run has a slightly larger flower, more sprayed color around the center of the petals. The center has more texture than later versions. There is a lot of variance in the flowers on the hats through 1995 and 1996. This doll is in beautiful condition. No marks, scratches or stains. Her eyes open and close. Her hair is silky.
