Description: Rosenthal 6 Dessert Plates 5 3/4" Florals Hand Painted Claire Mold 1902-1906 HTF Exquisite Decorative ROSENTHAL CLAIRE Mold 5 3/4" Set of 6 DESSERT PLATES, Hand Painted 6 Different FLORAL SCENES w/GREEN LEAVES, Scalloped & Embossed Rim from Selb, Bavaria, Germany, Circa 1902-1906 DESCRIPTION: This simple but elegant pattern has 6 different floral scenes each on a different color with green leaves. There are white highlights on the blooms on 4 of the plates. There is no gold on these plates. The rim is scalloped and embossed with the colored daubs to highlight the embossing. There are light brown & light green ghost leaves to give depth to the paintings. This is on the Claire mold which was introduced in 1902. This set is a real beauty that was painted by a most talented artist! CONDITION: The condition of these Rosenthal plates is superb. We can find only a very minor defect and no damage. On the back of the pink plate on the foot is a very short glazed over slip crack. This does not show on the front and in no way affects the use of the plate. There are no chips, nicks, other cracks, rubbings or hairlines. There is no wear to the paint. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The plates are 5 3/4" in diameter with a height of 9/16". HISTORY/MARKS: In 1879 in Upper Franconia, Bavaria at Erkersreuth Castle, Phillip Rosenthal (1855-1937) founded a porcelain decorating studio using blanks supplied by Zeidler. His business grew to the point that in 1891 he built his first factory to produce porcelain using kaolin imported from Bohemia. The current Rosenthal website states from 1907 the company marks each product with its full name, thus the brand name of Rosenthal is born in 1907. In his book entitled Rosenthal, Dieter Struss dates this mark as used in the 1898-1906 time period. These plates are on the Claire mold which was introduced in 1902.
