Description: Estate FindSemi Antique Turkish Yahyali Rug43 1/2” x 84 1/2” We offer a semi-antique hand knotted Turkish Yahyali tribal rug. The rug has a low profile wool pile woven on a wool foundation. The rug features a traditional red, blue and white medallion within a brown hexagon, set within a red hexagon, set within a cobalt blue hexagon on a red field of stylized flowers. An orange lane filled with additional stylized flowers is bounded by cobalt lanes.The rug measures 3’ 7 1/2" in width and 7’ 1/2” in length including the fringe. The rug thickness is approximately 1/4” with a closely cropped profile. The rug is semi-antique with minor age appropriate abrasion.The Turkish Yahyali rug is presented in very good semi-antique condition. Provenance Elinor Drake Donnell (1936-2018) Elinor Drake Donnell, Elinor attended The University of Texas at Austin, where in finance class her Freshman year, she met a young man from Wichita Falls, Ben Donnell, and the two quickly became an inseparable pair. Elinor made many friends at the University, was a proud member of the Orange Jackets and was interested in student government, managing several successful campaigns for Ben. Elinor loved her time in Austin, always giving credit to the University for broadening her world and became a life-long advocate for the Longhorns. Elinor was a life member of the Texas Ex Student’s Association, a member of the President’s Associates, the University of Texas Development Board, the Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee and the Longhorn Foundation.After college, Elinor and Ben married and moved to Washington, D.C. where both worked on Capitol Hill.In 1962, Elinor and Ben moved to Corpus Christi, where Ben began his law practice. Always a leader and a doer, and affectionately known as “the General,” Elinor joined in a wide range of community-focused activities including serving as President of the Junior League of Corpus Christi, overseeing the restoration of the Sidbury House in Heritage Park, President of Las Doñas de La Corte, President of the Patrons of the Order of De Piñeda, and President of the Corpus Christi Tennis Association. Elinor was a board member of the CHRISTUS Spohn Foundation and chairman of its Lyceum event and board member of Humanities Texas. She also served as a member of the Municipal Arts Council and on the board of the Texas Maritime Museum. Of all of her community activities, however, her contributions to the development of the Texas State Aquarium were among those of which she was most proud. She served on the board for thirty-five years and most recently co-chaired the capital campaign to add the Caribbean wing to the Aquarium. For all of her efforts on behalf of the Aquarium, she was awarded its Golden Star Award in 2013.
