Description: Stunning Antique Japanese Lacquerware Box Featuring Song Birds & Cherry Blossom This wonderful little box has been skillfully hand painted with two beautifully observed and presented song birds, perched an a branch and surrounded by cherry blossom. The box has a mocha coloured ground with all of the detail painted in rich soft tones with subtle, but generous gilt detailing and accents. The box has a shallow rectangular form with a hinged lid. The base, walls and interior are plain glossy black. The front has an embossed escutcheon, but no key, this is sadly lost. The lock has been damaged, presumably to gain gain access after loosing the key, but is aesthetically in good order. The box is in good antique condition, it has some minor chipping of the lacquer as expected. The box measures approx. 26cm by 17cm by 7cm. A beguiling collectable.
