Inventor Thomas Edison and his son wrote this signed note to discuss a change of title for one of his employees, which "might carry weight in Washington". Two autograph notes signed "E." by Thomas Alva Edison, Jr. and "T A E" by Thomas Alva Edison, in pencil. 1 page, 4x7, ruled paper. The younger Edison's note in full: "How would financial manager or 2nd or 1st Vice President do -". The elder Edison's note in full: "We call him something other than Assistant Treasurer. '2nd Vice President wouldnt [sic] mean anything around but might carry weight in Washington What do you think?" THOMAS EDISON (1847-1931, born in Milan, Ohio) patented more than a thousand inventions, including the incandescent electric lamp, phonograph (his favorite invention), mimeograph, alkaline storage battery and microphone. In 1890, he invented the Vitascope, and Edison is credited with establishing the standard of using 35mm film with four perforations on the edges. He produced talking motion pictures in 1913. In 1887, Edison had set up his facility dedicated to research and development in West Orange, New Jersey. By the following year, it was the world's largest scientific testing laboratory. His original laboratory, in Menlo Park, New Jersey, was removed to the Greenfield Village Museum in Dearborn, Michigan by his friend, Henry Ford, in 1929. THOMAS EDISON, JR. (1876-1935) was the first son of inventor Thomas Alva Edison. His father nicknamed his older sister Marion Estelle Edison and him nicknamed "Dot" and "Dash", respectively, after the Morse code terms. Lightly toned and creased. Right corner is torn away, but detached piece is present. Lightly torn at top and left edges. Tackhead-sized hole, staple holes, paper clip impression and rust stain at upper left corner. Folded twice horizontally and once vertically and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
