Description: Vintage Artisan Miniature Dollhouse ORIGINAL Marcia Backstrom Lady Doll w Roses This incredible 18th Century woman character doll was created by hand by the late Marcia Backstrom around 1980 and is one of her very early dolls. She has a natural beauty to her face with hand sculpted features including a lip beauty mark and soulful brown eyes. Her curly, auburn-brown hair is peeking out from underneath her FABULOUS HAT, made of rich merlot colored antique silk with intricate lace trim, tied under her chin. She is made of all clay and is posed in a permanent standing position. One arm is holding on to the edge of her gown. She was hand sculpted long ago, from head to toe. In one hand she is carrying a bouquet of soft pink roses. Her merlot gown is decorated with layers of ivory antique lace and silk ribbon trims, all of which has been made of antique and vintage fabrics from Marcia Backstrom's curated collection from flea markets in the United States, England and Paris. Marcia sculpted her dolls with a tiny crochet hook and a lump of clay. Her character dolls can be placed in many different scenes. This doll has wonderful details. Her original all clay dolls are very hard to find. We actually own her former studio with all of her original sculptures and intend to continue her legacy of creating fantastic character dolls for years to come...however, this stunning beauty was made by Marcia herself. For many years I have enjoyed a friendship with Madam Y. Her love of miniatures and her vast knowledge of artisans was something that we enjoyed talking about. Over the years I watched in awe as her collection continuously grew, she even had to expand her beautiful home on the sea just to house her collection of some of the finest miniatures in the world. When she decided to sell her collection, she contacted me so that I could tell her story and the story of each piece she has acquired, over all these years. Her hope is to find a home and share the story of every single piece. We have just begun to receive the boxes, all wrapped so well as they were all very special to her. She wanted others to know these incredible artisans, many she has met in person, from countries all over the globe and it is her hope that you will get to know them too, as we list them one by one.
