Domoto Insho (1891-1975) was a Japanese painter active suring Taisho – Showa period in Japan. He studied painting under a prominent artist, Nishiyama Suisho (1879 – 1958). In 1919, after "Landscape of Fukakusa" was accepted for the 1st TEITEN exhibition, Insho had been cutting a brilliant figure as a young painter. With success as a painter, Insho began to receive comissions to paint the ceilings and fusuma of distinguished Buddhist temples in the Kansai area. Insho completed over 600 such commissions in his lifetime. Some light marks and foxing are present on the painting itself, otherwise the piece is in good condition.Some marks, crease and damage are present on the scroll mounting, otherwise it can enjoy as is. It is accompanied by a double paulownia wood storage box, which indicates the piece has been well respected. The inner box is slightly damaged.
