Description: This is the Original (1sh) 1927 Window Card WINGS, Style A. It was used by Paramount to promote this movie when it was released in 1927. It is not a reprint nor a reproduction. The movie stars Clara Bow, Charles Rogers, Richard Arlen, Jobyna Ralston, El Brendel, Richard Tucker, Gary Cooper, and Gunboat Smith.WINGS was directed by William Wellman. You may notice at the bottom of the Window Card on the right (and in photo 3) that is has written "Paramount Famous Lasky Corp". After its creation in 1916, around 1935, Paramount Famous Lasky Corp shortened its name to just "Paramount". From Wikipedia....In 1916, Zukor engineered a three-way merger of his Famous Players, the Lasky Company, and Paramount. Zukor and Lasky bought Hodkinson out of Paramount and merged the three companies into one. The new company Lasky and Zukor founded on June 28, Famous Players-Lasky Corporation, although it continued to use the name "Paramount" as well. On April 1, 1927, the company name was changed to Paramount Famous Lasky Corporation. On June 4, 1935, John E. Otterson became president of the re-emerged and newly renamed Paramount Pictures Inc.This unrestored Window Card comes Flat, and measures 14" x 22". It has not been Folded or Rolled at any point. (continued description from above) There is tape on the reverse at the top left. Looking at the front of the poster, the tape on the reverse is between the "U" and "N" in "UNIQUE". This tape repaired a 4" to 5" vertical tear. Thee are no other tears, no pin holes, and no smudging of the colors. The 6" or so area at the top, called the Snippet area, has an imprint there of the "UNIQUE THEATRE" with show dates in Ladysmith, Wis. This Snippet area is left bank by the creators of the Window card so that Theatres can do exactly that, enter or print in their Theatre name, dates the movie is showing and location of the Theatre, and whatever they want to put there. We don not consider this imprint a flaw, although some collectors looking for an almost pristine Window Card may differ we our opinion. We actually see it as more evidence that this is an ORIGINAL Window Card, not a reprint or reproduction. There is no loss of paper or color. The reverse of the Window Card has moderate staining, blackish marks, grime - bt we ran out of photo space (max 12 photos) to include a photo of the reverse but if you want to see it just let us know. The Window card is on medium thick Cardstock and has a low gloss. We feel that the main image is beautiful and is generally free of any (obtrusive) flaws. This original Window Card is graded C7.5, Very Fine Minus. Original movie posters are graded as follows from the top down: C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine), C7 (Fine/Very Fine), C6 (Fine or Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), etc. It is difficult to find any original Window Cards or posters pre 1985 in C10 Mint condition. The majority of the flaws occur along the borders and in the Snippet Area (the 6" or so at the top left blank for the Theatre to put its' showtime information there). These flaws, on their own would drive the grade of the Window Card to a C6 Fine or a tad higher to C6.5. But the main image has only a few stray marks in it, such as the tiny ones in the Title, and if graded on its own the main image, to us, would receive a C8 or better grade. Since I have been collecting original movie posters for decade, I truly believe that many buyers of originals movie posters or, in this case, Window Cards, consider the condition of the main image as more important than the condition of the borders. So that is how we gave the Window card an overall grade of C7.5 Very Fine minus. Hopefully, we have provided you, the potential buyer, with sufficient information on the condition of this Window Card - thru photos and written description - for you to come to your own conclusion as to the grade of this Window Card. We try to do this for all our listed originals, not just this one. If you have any questions, please let us know. And the maim image is just beautiful, with solid, rich colors and excellent detail of the image. And we believe that this style of the WINGS Window card (Style A) is a better, more beautiful, image that the Style B WINGS Window Card. We feel that the original 1927 Window Card WINGS has superior investment value. For comparison and relative value comparison, the internet site IGUIDE has the two One Sheets (27" x 41") styles of WINGS value at $60,000 and $70,000. Now we recognize that this Window card is not the One Sheet, but this information may give the potential buyer some insight as to the value and investment value of the original 1927 Window card WINGS.
